He completed his residence in Ophthalmology in Dr. Luis Sanchez Bulnes Hospital of the Association “To avoid Blindness in Mexico” (APEC) one of the most important institutions for the treatment of ocular pathologies in Latin America. On having finished the residence in ophthalmology, Dr Orlich completed a subspecialty in Cornea and Refractive Surgery in the Service of APEC’s Cornea.
He is a member of the Costa Rican Association of Ophthalmology, the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and of the Surgeon’s American Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) and a number of other important medical associations.
The following highlights the experience Dr. Claudio Orlich obtained while he was employed at the Children’s National Hospital and at the Ophthalmological Clinic of the Costa Rican Social Insurance, from March 2003 though September 2008.
During 2005 he completed the first implants of the “Rings of Ferrara” or “Corneal Rings” in Costa Rica, qualifying with the Dr. Paulo Ferraro, Brazilian ophthalmologist that invented, developed and perfected the placement of these famous ocular implants.
In 2007 he carried out the first transplant of artificial cornea (Aphacor) in the country, being also the first Ophthalmologist in Latin America in performing this procedure.
in 2008 he brought Costa Rica the first INTRALASE, the ophthalmological only (unique) technology in the country, Central America and the Caribbean. In the course of the year he performed the first surgeries of transplant of cornea with laser, and the implants of “Rings Intraestromales” also 100% laser.
His clinical interests include: The Transplant of Artificial Cornea, the Rings of Ferrara, Pterignon’s Surgery, Surgery of Cataract, and lasers of the most advanced technology.
